The Lowest Seeds To Win Olympic Swimming Gold Since 2000

During the Tokyo Olympics, Tunisian Ahmed Hafnaoui surprised everyone by winning the gold medal in the men’s 400 freestyle swimming out of lane 8.

Few people believed he could medal, let alone win the gold, mainly because he was not even among the 15 fastest seed times in the event.

But he is not the lowest seeded swimmer to ever win an Olympic gold medal. Instagram’s Swimming Stats page has published the list of the lowest seeded swimmers to win Olympic gold medals since 2000.

Hafnaoui arrived in Tokyo with a personal best of 3:46.16, which was the 16th-fastest

Top 20 Girls NCAA Swimming Recruits, Class of 2021

After dropping the boys rankings a few weeks ago, it’s time to revisit the girls’ high school class of 2021 and re-rank how they stack up as they begin their collegiate careers.

As recruiting classes get closer to actual NCAA competition, we start to weigh certain factors more heavily: NCAA scoring times become more important, and we tend to value one or two standout events a bit more heavily (compared to a wide range of just decent events) than we would for a high school sophomore who has more time to develop across the board. Having already ranked this class

World’s deepest swimming pool hides vast sunken city 200 feet underwater

Thought your neighbor’s pool with the unicorn floats was fancy? Jump into Deep Dive Dubai, a new indoor diving facility that’s 60 meters (197 feet) deep and filled with as much water as six Olympic-size swimming pools.

The diving pool — named deepest swimming pool for diving by Guinness World Records — opened to the public at the end of July. “Diving pool” doesn’t really do this wild place justice, however. Think of it as a massive underwater world full of subaquatic attractions.

Chief among them is an area made to resemble an abandoned sunken city, complete with decaying

Inside Sky Lagoon, Iceland’s Most Impressive New Swimming Pool

Just ask top Icelandic fashion designer Hildur Yeoman, a favorite of Scandinavian pop stars and Iceland’s Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdottir alike. Yeoman commissioned artist and photographer Saga Sig to shoot her current Spring/Summer collection within the waters. “I picked the lagoon because my collection, entitled Splash, is inspired by adventures by the sea or at the pool, with a hint of mermaid vibes,” says Yeoman of her collection’s drippy mesh dresses, wet-look matched sets, and bustier one-pieces.

After a bracing and brief dip in the cold plunge (a nod to the original Snorralaug pool, referenced in sagas as far
