California’s Southern Section to Hold Swimming and Diving Championships in May

The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF)’s Southern Section announced on Wednesday that the Orange County Department of Public Health gave its approval to hold the Section’s Swimming and Diving Championships for the 2020-21 school year.

The Southern Section comprises most of the public and private high schools in Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura, and central and southern Santa Barbara counties. [Note: There is a separate section called CIF Los Angeles City Section for teams from the public schools that make up the vast Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD).]

Sketchy Pool Turns Parking Garage Into Free Car Wash

Everybody wants a swimming pool, at least until its thousands of gallons of chemical-laden water come splashing down through the ceiling of the parking garage it was precariously built above. Which is exactly what was captured on video in Brazil this week.

A clip of a swimming pool on fire has left people scratching their head and saying the laws of physics had been “broken.”

YouTuber Carter Sharer shared a clip on TikTok from his lush pad, thought to be at Holmby Hills, Los Angeles, showing flames dancing across his pool.

Sharer said: “I didn’t think water was flammable until I accidentally lit my pool on fire. Seriously it’s burning. Like guys seriously the water is on fire, it’s burning . And I don’t know how to put it out. Because if I put water on it, it keeps burning.”

With pools closed, Peruvians turn to open-water swimming

LIMA, Peru (AP) — The swimmers began gathering even before dawn glimmers on Pescadores beach, plunging into the Pacific surf for one of the few athletic endeavors permitted under Peru’s strict pandemic restrictions.

Swimming pools have been closed for more than a year, but government has since Oct. 30 allowed open-water swimming, even if relaxing on the beach is banned to prevent mass gatherings.

Forty-three-year-old Lorena Choy said swimming “relaxes me, unstresses me. … It helps a lot psychologically.”

Swimming coach Víctor Solís, 47, said he estimated that the number of swimmers out each morning has multlplied fivefold recently.
